Jorn – Nitsch

Exhibition opening

June 8, 2024

nitsch museum, Mistelbach, AT

“Jorn – Nitsch” is the first exhibition at the nitsch museum Mistelbach in which Hermann Nitsch’s work is juxtaposed with a second artistic position.

“Protestant north meets catholic-baroque Weinviertel”

The greatest similarities between the two artists can be found in the mythical-cultic and the gestural-material aspects of their painting. Asger Jorn thematises Nordic culture, the “vandalic”, in the form of archaic paintings, drawings and sculptures. Nitsch immerses himself in the spiritual-Dionysian world of intoxication, ecstasy, eroticism, pain, annihilation and ultimately resurrection.

Following the retrospective of Asger Jorn’s graphic works at the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg in 2019, the nitsch museum offers the first opportunity to see works by the famous Danish painter in Austria again. In direct juxtaposition with Nitsch, the similarities in this artistic “elective affinity” become visible.

Further information on the exhibition.

The opening will take place on Saturday, 8 June, 2024 at 6 pm at the nitsch museum.
