radio broadcast: Contemporary Music | Bloody Noise
Music in the Gesamtkunstwerk of Hermann Nitsch
On the occasion of an organ concert in Berlin, the artist and author Thomas Groetz had a conversation with Hermann Nitsch about the music in the Orgien Mysteries Theatre. This resulted in a one-hour radio broadcast entitled “Noise with Instruments”, which was first broadcasted on May 16, 2017.
On January 11, 2024, the contribution will be on air again in an adapted form on hr2-Kultur.
“For the musical processes in his theatrical rituals, Hermann Nitsch, who himself liked to improvise on the organ and also worked as a stage designer for various opera productions, developed his own notation. His idea of the interaction of all artistic media that appeal to the senses is characterized by the tension between concentration and dissolution of boundaries: by the expansion of art into life, intensification and expressive exaggeration as well as the focus on psychological processes,” writes Thomas Groetz in the introduction.
The entire program “Blutiger Lärm/Bloody Noise” can be streamed (german only) via the hr2 media library until further notice.
