The Nitsch Foundation is very happy to announce the realisation of the exhibition: Hermann Nitsch. Tribute – as a contemporary juxtaposition to Claude Monet’s waterlilies.
In spring 2020, Hermann Nitsch received an invitation to collaborate with Musée de l’Orangerie. The museum is the site of Claude Monet’s famous water lily paintings – Nitsch visited them on every trip to Paris. The pandemic and the comprehensive project in Bayreuth have repeatedly delayed the exhibition. Soon time has come, the exhibition Hermann Nitsch. Homage – will be on display as a contemporary juxtaposition at the Musée de l’Orangerie from October 11, 2022
Since the 1950s Hermann Nitsch, a founder and major artist of the Vienna Actionism movement, has developed a powerfully expressive work, including the practice of painting in his performances. During the last years of his career, more and more lively and saturated color interfered in his painting. Nitsch, who admitted to be fascinated by Monet’s Waterlilies, was invited before his death to come and talk with this masterpiece of Impressionism at the Musée de l’Orangerie, underlined the connections he saw in it with his own work.
One year after his death this posthumous presentation pays tribute to him.
