Special stamp release by Austrian Post
Art from Austria - Hermann Nitsch
September 14, 2026

On 14 September 2026, the Austrian Post will present the new special stamp “Kunst aus Österreich” (Art from Austria) featuring a painting by Hermann Nitsch!
Austrian Post’s special stamps are known worldwide for their beauty and quality – not just among philatelists. These stamps represent more than just postage; they also document a wide variety of interesting events and themes in an artistic form, thus carrying messages around the globe.
Hermann Nitsch’s actionist art is also manifest in his famous poured paintings, for which he sometimes used blood. Later poured paintings feature lighter colors like yellow, orange, pink, or green instead of blood red and black, reflecting a zest for life. The stamp design depicts a poured painting from 2020. The paint was applied by hand, creating a relief-like effect, and the swirling structure is reminiscent of blossoms.
