This lecture performance by Leopoldo Siano attempts to tell the multifaceted story of sound actionism and capture its essence. It’s all about stories of sounds and sounds that tell stories or are simply what they are…

“In the beginning was the deed” is how Faust translates the incipit of the Gospel of John in Goethe’s magnum opus. Every act, even the smallest and quietest – everything that happens – inevitably has to do with sound. “Something always happens”… If theater is understood as a precursor to action art, music is a precursor to sound art. This performative reading attempts to tell the multifaceted history of sound actionism and to grasp its essence: from John Cage to Joseph Beuys, from Fluxus to Viennese Actionism, from Henning Christiansen to Walter Marchetti, from Giuseppe Chiari to Alvin Curran, and so on.

Stories of sounds and sounds that tell stories or simply are what they are. theatrum phonosophicum is a life project by Leopoldo Siano and Shushan Hyusnunts that aims to share knowledge in a sensual way and encourages the creation of experiential spaces in which traditional knowledge comes into contact with experimental practices. It strives for a synthesis of different forms of artistic expression – the Gesamtkunstwerk, or “total work of art” (from Richard Wagner to the avant-garde and beyond). At the center of theatrum phonosophicum is sound and the practice of listening – understood in a broader sense as an “ecology of the mind”.

Following to the lecture, bread and wine will be offered.
