Hermann Nitsch

World of Colours

About 100 works of the universal artist Hermann Nitsch, who died in April, are exhibited at the Museum St. Peter an der Sperr in Wiener Neustadt. The works presented in the secular church – mainly large-format paintings from the last years of Hermann Nitsch – are provided by the Werner Trenker Collection, supplemented by loans from the Nitsch Foundation. The works captivate with completely new, luminous colour compositions. Hubert Klocker, a proven specialist of Vienna Actionism, has been enlisted as curator of the show.

“To create and design something new is the most beautiful thing you can experience as a human being. It is important to me to lead people to art with my collection and thereby open up new worlds for them,” says Werner Trenker about the exhibition. “Already with the first acquired artwork by Hermann Nitsch, with its extraordinarily beautiful, joyful and energetic world of colors, I caught fire for the work and the person Hermann Nitsch.”

Rita Nitsch is delighted “The setting and the choice of images for this exhibition would suit Nitsch very much: the city, the collection, the exhibition space, the curator.”

The mayor of Wiener Neustadt, Klaus Schneeberger, with pride: “The exhibition Farbenwelt with works by the great artist Hermann Nitsch is a very special honor for Wiener Neustadt and confirmation of our path in culture in recent years.”

“it gives me great pleasure to concentrate on the flowery luminosity of the smeared color substance in my works, which i am still able to produce at the age of eighty. more than ever, resurrection is a principle for me.” (Hermann Nitsch, 2019)

The exhibition “Hermann Nitsch. World of Colours” will be open until October 31, 2023.
