Donna Huanca
in conversation with Margherita Belcredi
November 11, 2024, 6pm
Nitsch Foundation, Vienna, AT
As part of the exhibition “SKIN PAINTEENS”, the Nitsch Foundation invites you to a conversation with the internationally renowned artist Donna Huanca, moderated by Margherita Belcredi (Phileas Austria).
Donna Huanca, born 1980 in Chicago, is an American artist with Bolivian roots. She works in a variety of media including painting, video, sculpture and installation.
Inspired by indigenous systems of communication, in which objects address multiple levels of meaning and symbolism in parallel, Huanca uses materials as repositories that concentrate and convey knowledge, information and memory. Deeply rooted in ritual, her kaleidoscopic practice creates shared spaces for transcendence, meditation and transformation.
Donna Huanca is interested in the flowing earthly cycles of birth, decay and renewal. Through overlaps in time and narrative, her multi-layered works embody an allegory of fragmentation and interconnectedness of our shared human experience.
Donna Huanca’s works are represented in numerous collections worldwide, including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, YUZ Museum, Shanghai, Rubell Museum, Miami, and Belvedere Museum, Vienna, to name a few.
Due to limited visitor capacity during the exhibition, registration for the event at office@nitsch-foundation.com is required.
We look forward to seeing you there!
