NOW HERE, THEN THERE
40 Years Galleri Susanne Ottesen
The Susanne Ottesen Gallery in Copenhagen is celebrating its 40th anniversary with a comprehensive programme review. It brings together Danish and international artists who have presented solo exhibitions at the gallery over four decades and shaped the Danish art scene.
The exhibition NOW HERE, THEN THERE began in September with the five artists who exhibited in the gallery’s original premises in Store Kongensgade from 1983 onwards: Per Kirkeby, Bjørn Nørgaard, Kirsten Ortwed, A. R. Penck and Troels Wörsel. Their works were exhibited in the gallery throughout the 1980s and offer a unique view of this period.
In November the exhibition changed its character and focuses on the long period from 1989 to the present day. The five artistic positions from the first years are now expanded and enriched by a spectrum of over 40 Danish and international artists, including Jiří Dokoupil, Hermann Nitsch, Cindy Sherman and Lawrence Weiner.
The large solo exhibition “Hermann Nitsch – The Orgien Mysteries Theatre” took place from 19 January to 24 February 1990. Rare posters with drawings commemorate this collaboration.
