CLAUDIO COSTA | HERMANN NITSCH
Il viaggio nell'ancestrale
The exhibition offers a juxtaposition of two of the most influential artists of the second half of the twentieth century.
The show includes monographic spaces dedicated to each of the two artists, as well as spaces of encounter where commonalities and differences in their artistic productions are presented.
Stefano Castelli curated the exhibition based on an idea by Massimo Melotti.
The selection of Claudio Costa’s works covers various stages of his creative work, from assemblages to large-scale installations. In this way, the coherence of his visual language, which is closely linked to his biography, can be traced from the “archaeological-anthropological” to the “alchemical” phase.
Hermann Nitsch is represented by historical as well as contemporary works. In addition to a large number of “relics”, i.e. works that are testimonies of his actions, but also autonomous works, examples of his paintworks are shown. The artist’s famous “Schüttbilder” designate themselves through color as material.
