Hermann Nitsch

Peintures

After more than 25 years of absence from the Parisian scene, autumn 2018 will mark the return of Hermann Nitsch. Before that, the last major event held in Paris was in January 1975 when the artist responded to the invitation of the second edition of the FIAC. On the evening of the opening, the Austrian artist presented his 48th Action to the French public.

Galerie RX is pleased to present the solo exhibition of the Austrian artist Hermann Nitsch (80 years old), curated by Denise Wendel-Poray.

The first solo exhibition at the gallery will feature a selection of paintings from 1973 to the present day. It will be followed by a retrospective at the Albertina Museum in Vienna, Austria, dedicated to his pictorial work in the spring of 2019. Some of the works on canvas presented were created during Ceremonial and Sacrificial Actions or during Actions paintings.

Curator: Denise Wendel-Poray is a writer, journalist and exhibition curator. She is the author of essays on the relationship between art, theatre and music. Guest curator at the Lehmbruck Museum in Duisburg from 2010 to 2012, she also produced an exhibition on William Kentridge at the Rupertinum Museum in Salzburg in 2017 and the Wahlverwandschaften exhibition at the Sammlung Friedrichshof Museum in Zurndorf, Austria in 2018.

Lecture: During the exhibition, Robert Fleck will present and contextualize Hermann Nitsch’s work as part of a lecture given at the gallery. Date and speakers to come.
